Spring Win

Spring Win

I know it's spring because of the beautiful flowers. The days are getting longer, the birds start chirping very early, my closets at my studio are billowing with gowns, AND my sneakers are replacing my skis. My first challenge of the running year is the Lilac Festival 5k. It is a big deal in my family. They come in from out of town for the weekend. We do our warm up race on Friday, fun at the Rochester Public Market on Saturday, and we get up early to run the race on Sunday.
We spend the long weekend with hunting for treasures at garage sales and get creative with culinary art abilities (we have awesome culinary artists in our family, there is never any leftovers!).
My 16 month old grandson was in the 5k race too! He gets to ride and he always has a better time than me because he is pushed by my dear friend Elizabeth who is also my personal trainer/coach/inspiration.
Elizabeth runs marathons and triathlons. She is the one that got me into running. I decided this year I would give myself the challenge of a better time than last year. I did get a better time than lst year and won 3rd place in the sisters teams! My sister and I were surprised and excited when our names were announced and we were handed out medals. This makes it a 2nd athletic award for me in less than a year! I only started running three years ago. It is thrilling to challenge yourself and reach a goal that you were not expecting. It confirms what I tell my clients; love your body no matter what it looks like, and appreciate what it does for you everyday. Also I want to say - Thanks mom! - for cheering us on and keeping my kitchen clean.
